This past Sunday I needed some retail therapy so I hit up one my favorite places... Sleepy Poet -
A huge warehouse filled with multiple booths ranging from antiques to vintage clothing.  As I was strolling through the aisles I stumbled along some things that I thought were fun - See below.

And this old sign is just plain fun!  Makes me want to head to the beach right now.

Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda

Since our return from Paris I have been trying to be frugal... key word "trying".  Every time I decide not to spend money is the exact time when pieces walk into my life that I can't give up.  Why is that?? Shall I dare to call it fate??  It's probably more along the line of wanting what you can't have.
If my name were in the dictionary it would have that exact description beside...
Mary Mac  "wants what she can't have"
(along with creative, fun, mad skills on the dance floor, etc.)

I heard a saying today, If you love it and you can afford it then get it.
There is nothing worse that having the coulda, shoulda, woulda feeling.
Believe me - I know from experience.

Miss Me??

Hello ~  I feel that I owe an explanation for my long absence.  Honestly, I thought about giving up blogging... it had become more of a morning job before I took off at 8:20 for my "real job" (you know the place you go to from 9-5 : M-F to bring in the bacon.)  Trying to find inspiration three times a week is hard work!!  I thought about focusing more on the Showroom I work for - but that felt like cheating.  I do participate in buying merchandise for the showroom but in reality it is someone else's dream come true.  Don't get me wrong... I LOVE my job.  It is amazing to work in the Design Industry for such wonderful visionaries with great taste and big hearts!  But this blog is supposed to be a way for me to express my own creative being.

That being said, I'm going to give Boddrick's Roost another go with better posts but less often.

In our forever home I want to have BIG windows so I can enjoy the outdoors.  My parents live in a 1950's house as well, and while I hated the house when they moved, I have grown to love certain aspects of it.  The kitchen and dining room have windows from wall to wall with only 3" panes in between them with a beautiful view into the backyard.  My bedroom at my parent's house is on the second floor with the same windows and the view is amazing!  All you can see are the tops of trees and the occasional squirrel.  Very Peaceful.

Sidewalk

Our front yard looked like this on Monday

And looked like this yesterday.

The sidewalk project has reached our part of the street.  You are probably figuring out now why I have been posting so much about front yard landscaping!! Today our driveway gets ripped out and regraded.  And HOPEFULLY by Friday we will have a new driveway, a retaining wall, and a side walk with a planting strip.  I have really been looking forward to this project as I think it will give our front yard definition and will help me figure out the best way to landscape.

In the meantime I guess we are parking on the street...

Curb Appeal

Curb Appeal is so important to a house. It is the first thing people see when visiting and first impressions are very important.  The city is adding a sidewalk to our front yard in the next few weeks and then we are planning major front yard landscaping.

Take a look at the before and after of a house with new front yard landscaping via House Beautiful.

Before:

A new front door is always a step in the right direction:

After:

It is amazing what plants and a little thought can do.  The best plan is to visit your local nursery or a local college with a landscape program and get their help for a long term plan.  No one can afford to do everything at once.  So do a little bit at a time and after the plants mature a bit you will have a front yard that welcomes guests and really shows your personality!!
