Friday WOW day

As I was perusing design blogs and magazines this morning over coffee I came along this fabulous picture.  Take a good look... what is the first thing that jumps out at you??

What I LOVE in this photo is the charcoal sketch of what looks to me like a Chinese Robe.
I minored in art and I took a charcoal studio class ~ it was AMAZING!  Very messy... but so fun.
In taking this class I really learned about how light touches objects ~ when you only have one color to make lights and darks you have to focus.

If you have some extra time and you are looking for a hobby sign up for an art class! They have classes at local colleges but also independent Art stores have one day classes that last a couple hours.  A great way to spend a Saturday AND take a piece of art home.

Happy Friday!

Great Day

I was so excited yesterday when I checked the mailbox and pulled out not one but TWO new magazines!!! Veranda and Traditional Home.
After cleaning the house I treated myself to a glass of Merlot and flipped through Veranda.  One article stuck out in my mind and I even thought about it when I woke up this morning...

The designer is Kay Douglass out of Atlanta and although I could not find pictures of the Veranda spread to share with you this is what I loved about it.
There are pops of bright color scattered all around the house built on top of a neutral pallet.  The grey walls in the dining room look STUNNING with long Kelly Green linen curtains.  The seating area nearby uses velvet pillow in the same Kelly Green but pairs up with Chartreuse do give the room extra pizazz.
There is a bedroom again in all neutrals but with a throw and pillows on the bed in a vibrant yellow with a bathroom to match!!  It all just makes me SO HAPPY!!  Please go buy the new Veranda and let me know what you think.
(the opening pages also have a few very stylish cocktail tables...)

Here are some pics of Kay Douglass' work

(we just sold this console off the floor at the Showroom!!)

The gentleman's guest room, designed by Kay Douglass and Dixie Peeples, is among the more surprising spaces with flanking charcoal daybeds and funky accents of kelly green in the drapery, bedding and oversized lantern hanging above coral.

FABRIC HEADBOARDS
Gotta Love 'Em!

I have a fabric headboard in my Master BR.  It curves up ever so slightly and is covered in a neutral fabric with over sized natural nail heads.  I LOVE it but seeing some of these other headboards is making me want to change. Uh Oh.  I love the taller headboards. What an great way to give the room height...  Hmmmmmmmm.

Love this!! Green and Yellow has always been one of my favorite combos.  Somehow I don't have it anywhere in my house and I have promised my husband to give the house a break for a few months... haha! Looking at magazines and working in a Trade Showroom makes me want to redo everything all the time!!  But this picture is definitely going into my File for Later.

Velvet + Sofa

Is one of these in my future???  I think it is...

Velvet on a sofa is super sexy.  Doesn't matter if you are recovering a mid century sofa or buying a contemporary sofa with straight lines and a chrome leg.

Check it out~

Not Exactly the Same

I saw this on Elle Decor's website this morning under ideas for renovations...
renovation-products-ed0711-03.jpg

Available in 24 different colors... Isn't it Funky??

Made me think of something... Ok, I know my oven is not a Viking, it's electric not gas, and that it's about 50 years old but don't you see the resmeblence??? Maybe?? Sort of???

OK, not the same at all.  A girl can wish though...  Still love my little oven!

Happy Tuesday!

Weekend Update

Happy Monday everyone!  Hope you all had a nice weekend!  I had a very relaxed weekend... much needed.  I did a couple things to the house but decided to put all big projects on hold until this heat cools down.  It's just too hot to do anything.

A few weeks ago I posted some "during" office renovation pictures and it has come a long way.  I don't want to share it with you until it is complete... I have two more pieces I need to get for the room and am planning on getting them next weekend.  SOOOO as my Dad always says, "It'll give you something to look forward to."  I will tell you this to peak your interest,  it is AMAZING!! The office is our favorite room now!! So get excited ~

In the meantime I recovered my desk chair and painted the chandelier for the office.  Looks Smashing!!  Check it out.

Isn't amazing what a little paint can do?? Make sure you always do this outside...

All you need is some fabric and a staple gun

Have a great week!
